I have had a passion for photography since I was a college student at Portland State University, in the early 1990's. It was at Portland State, that I learned about the art of photography, and the science of darkroom processing. When I began making photographs, I used a combination of large and small format film cameras, such as the Canon AE-1, the Kodak Brownie and the Rolleiflex Automat, as well as toy cameras, such as the ANSCO Pix Panorama, using Kodak T-Max 100 or 400, and Fujichrome films such as Velvia. Most of my work at the time was processed and printed by hand, using traditional darkroom techniques. Some of that work can be seen here from time to time.

Today, I mostly use digital equipment and computer technology to create my images, although I go back to my film equipment every now and then, when I am overcome by a romantic feeling toward it. You can see a list of my current equipment on my gear page.

My computer manipulations are not extensive, they are only meant to recreate the scene as I saw it, or the way that I interpreted it. Thus, I use tools such as Photoshop and Lightroom conservatively, much the same way that I used the Zone System, certain chemicals, film types, filters and other darkroom techniques, back in the beginning.

My work is a mix of different genres, and I do that because I find that to be the best way to stay interested in photography, both satisfying my curiosity of, and love for the art, without making it feel too much like work. There is, however, one theme that I try to keep consistent throughout my body of work, and that is the concept of "wabi-sabi". The idea that each thing, scene, or situation, has an essence, and no matter how imperfect, impermanent and incomplete it is, the beauty of that essence can be captured and shown. Thus, whenever I make an image, I try to think about the essence of what I am seeing, and how I might show it's beauty and simplicity.

On my site, I am going to share with you some of my greater accomplishments as a photographer over the years. I am also going to show you some strange new worlds that I am exploring.

I hope you enjoy looking at the images, as much as I enjoy making them.
