Buckaroo
Buckaroo got me into backpacking about four years ago. Before that, I didn't have much of a taste for sleeping on the ground. That's still the worst part of it for me, but I can tolerate it for a few nights at a time.
Buckaroo calls backpacking "going on a walk." He claims he got that saying from a book by Bill Bryson entitled, "A Walk in the Woods", which Buckaroo says might be the funniest book he's ever read.
Going on a "walk" with Buckaroo is actually more like going for a run, uphill, with 40 pounds of gear on your back. Buckaroo is a true mountain man. I can't think of anyone I know who is a better guide to the back country of Oregon and Washington. He most always has a big smile on his face, especially when he's going on a walk.

"True love is the greatest thing in the world. Except for a nice MLT, a mutton, lettuce and tomato sandwich, where the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato is ripe. They're so perky, I love that."
